Mr Afoko's  vetting was put on hold three weeks ago after claims emerged that he had once served a jail term in the United Kingdom (UK).

Despite stressing that he had never been arrested or jailed in the UK, Mr Afoko's vetting was suspended to enable the NPP Vetting Committee verify the claims.

The committee gave Mr Afoko the go-ahead to contest the election after the United Kingdom discredited reports of his arrest and incarceration there.

"I feel happy, I feel relaxed, I feel grateful," Mr Afoko told Accra-based Asempa FM.

He said he was happy that his name had been cleared and expressed gratitude to his supporters who had said he encouraged in the last three weeks.
