Ms Opoku Amankwaa said even though Ghana had been classified as a successful country in the conduct of elections, there remained a lot to improve on in the electoral process.

Reject ballots

Speaking at an interaction with identifiable groups on the district level elections in Accra, Ms Opoku Amankwaa said the issue of rejected ballots was a challenge that needed to be addressed.

She stated that though the EC had been training agents on elections, some political parties replaced those trained agents with their own trained ones, all in the name of political bias.

She said with such bias, some of the agents tried to manipulate the rules on rejected ballots to take revenge on their opponents and upheld their conviction of their party to win elections.

The deputy chairman, therefore, called on Ghanaians with integrity and a sense of patriotism to offer themselves as electoral agents to enhance democratic elections in the country.

Politicians

Ms Amankwaa cautioned people about being influenced by politicians with goodies, promises and money to court their votes.

She said some politicians were using the assembly elections as a conduit for their ambitions to become members of Parliament and would influence the choice of candidates to serve their interest.

She advised the electorate to guard against corruption and offers that would influence them to vote for certain people who were hiding behind some political parties.

The Greater Accra Regional Director of the EC, Mr Alexander Poku-Akubia, urged the media to highlight the campaign for the district level elections.

Mr Poku-Akubia called on the media, especially radio presenters, to study the electoral laws to educate the people on elections.
