President-elect John Mahama pledges to address 'many wrongs' of outgoing government in New Year message

President-elect John Dramani Mahama has assured Ghanaians of his commitment to rectifying the shortcomings of the outgoing President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo administration as he prepares to assume office on January 7, 2025.

In a New Year’s message to the nation, Mr. Mahama described his imminent return to the presidency as an opportunity to restore hope, ensure progress, and rebuild trust.

He promised to prioritise economic transformation and governance reforms while addressing the concerns raised by citizens during the electoral period.

“We will work tirelessly to correct the outgoing administration's many wrongs, tackle corruption with dogged determination, and reduce excessive government expenditures,” he stated.

Mr. Mahama’s remarks signalled a focus on creating an efficient and transparent government. “My vision for our great nation includes a lean, efficient government responsive to your aspirations as a proud Ghanaian,” he said, reiterating his commitment to prudent economic management and fostering innovation.

The President-elect highlighted his administration’s plans to reset the economy, citing the introduction of a 24-hour economy policy aimed at job creation and boosting Ghana’s export potential. “Together, we’ll create an environment that fosters entrepreneurship, innovation, and sustainable development, ensuring that our youth can achieve their dreams right here at home,” he affirmed.

Addressing the youth directly, Mr. Mahama called on them to believe in themselves and participate actively in shaping Ghana’s future. “Your energy, creativity, and passion are vital to our future success,” he said, emphasising their role in cultivating a thriving economy.

He also extended assurances to the business community, pledging to dismantle barriers and simplify processes to enable economic growth. “My administration will support your efforts to create jobs and wealth,” he said, promising a renewed focus on empowering entrepreneurs.

In closing, Mr. Mahama expressed optimism about fulfilling his campaign promises and uniting the nation towards a common goal. “Let us stand united in the belief that we can reset our economy, restore dignity and integrity, and renew our collective commitment to building the Ghana we want,” he urged.
