President Mahama was not late to Revolution Day event

The Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the 36th Anniversary commemoration of the 31st December Revolution which came off in Ho on Sunday, says President Mahama was not late to the event.

Former President Jerry Rawlings, lead celebrant, had openly mocked ex-President John Mahama of keeping him waiting because he had failed to observe appointed time, saying it was a lesson Mahama had failed to learn.

However, Mr. Kofi Adams, National Organiser of the NDC, prompted Rawlings about a mix-up in the arrival times given former President, Mahama, which saw Rawlings apologise to John Mahama for the criticism before he resumed his seat.

The LOC, in a statement Monday, described the mix-up as ‘unfortunate’, saying “We wish to state emphatically from the outset that former President Mahama was not late to the Revolution Day event.

“It should be noted that what transpired leading to the remarks of the Founder of the NDC and former President, Jerry John Rawlings was an apparent communication lapse. Former President Mahama's Office was informed to arrive at 10am. It should be noted that Former President Mahama duly complied and in fact arrived earlier at 9:50am.

“It must be well acknowledged that Former President Rawlings after having been informed of these facts, in a statesmanly manner, publicly corrected the impression he had created earlier and apologised to President Mahama.

“The just observed 36th Revolution Day contrary to claims by our opponents of an imploding NDC has clearly showcased to the nation that the entire rank and file of the NDC is united under the umbrella and deeply committed to the principles of Probity, Accountability and Social Justice.

“We take this opportunity to thank all comrades for your participation, support and contributions towards a very successful event”, said Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah (MP) and chairman of the Local Organising Committee.
