‘Rally behind Electoral Commission’

The Ga Mantse, Nii Adama Latse II, has called on Ghanaians to rally behind the Electoral Commission (EC) to enable it to organise free and fair elections this year.

Even though he admitted that Ghanaians had the right to criticise the EC, he said a lot of the critics usually failed to offer alternatives to the commission to enhance its activities.

He made the appeal when some chiefs and elders of the Ato-We Clan at Abola at Ga Mashie in Accra called on him to express their appreciation for the support given them by the Ga Mantse and also affirm their allegiance to the Ga State.

It was also to introduce the new head of the Ato Family, Nii Ato II, to the Ga Mantse.

Ato-We Clan

The Ato-We Clan is significant in the history of the Ga State partly because it is the family that is responsible for keeping the ladle that the Ga Mantse uses to fetch soup onto the kpokpoi before sprinkling it during the Homowo Festival.

‘Refrain from insults’

The Ga Mantse further added his voice to the call on politicians and political commentators to refrain from politics of insults, noting that it did not augur well for the development of the nation since it put it in a bad light.

“It has become common to hear insults being hurled at leaders and people in authority, and this is an act alien to our culture,” he said.

He also bemoaned the level of indiscipline and intolerance among Ghanaians, adding that “intolerance brings misunderstanding, and this can trigger violence if not handled properly”.
