Reject politicians who have only outboard motors to offer. Nduom tells fishermen

The Flag-bearer of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom, has called on fishermen across the country to reject politicians who only bring them outboard motors and other fishing equipment in election years and abandon them after they win the elections.

According to Dr Nduom, some politicians see fishermen as ‘foolish’ and only think of them during election periods.

“Since you voted for John Mahama, what has he done to improve your lives? Has he bothered to come and find out the challenges you go through? It is an election year so they are bringing you outboard motors, fishing nets, etc. but once you finish voting, they will be done with you,” he stated.

These  rewards were contained in a party press statement.

Dr Nduom said this when he addressed residents of Bortianor during a durbar to introduce the parliamentary candidate for the PPP in the Ngleshie-Amanfrom Constituency, Rev. Fred Nii Adjetey Larbie.

Dignitaries present included the Aplaku Mantse, Langma Mantse, Bortianor Wolomo, Bortianor Abusuapanyin, Oshie Mankrado, Bortianor Chief Fisherman and Abusua Nii Okai.

Dr Nduom wondered why the John Mahama-led government would allow Koreans, Chinese nationals and others to come to Ghana to harvest our fingerlings when they knew fishing was the main occupation of the people along the coast.

“If the government truly cares for your welfare, it will not look on while foreigners destroy the ocean bed when they know the sea is your livelihoods. This clearly shows that the government has nothing better for you,” he added.

Rev. Larbie asked the people of the constituency to help him win the seat to bring development to the area, since he lives with them and knew the problems in their communities.

On behalf of all the chiefs and fishermen gathered there, Abusua Nii Okai bemoaned the pair trawling and fishing with light in their community.

He pledged their support for Dr Nduom, since they believed he is the only one who could truly fight for the rights of fishermen and turn the lives of all the fisherfolks around, especially as he himself comes from a fishing town, Elmina.

Dr Nduom further urged everyone to vote massively for Rev. Fred Nii Adjetey Larbie, who they described as their brother and father and Dr Nduom in the upcoming general election.
