Speaker of Parliament to inaugurate Yamoransa Model Lab 14 in Nadowli-Kaleo
The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, is set to inaugurate the Yamoransa Model (YM) Lab 14 in the Nadowli-Kaleo District on Saturday, March 22, 2025.
The state-of-the-art facility, established at the Speaker’s request and funded by him, aims to advance Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) education in the district.
The commissioning of the YM Lab 14, in collaboration with the Helping Africa Foundation (Founders of the Yamoransa Model Labs Program); IMPLEMENTERS (Project Managers); TECHAiDE, Ghana Education Service, the Nadowli-Kaleo District Assembly and the Traditional Council, marks a significant milestone in enhancing learning, innovation and providing underprivileged students with access to cutting-edge technology and resources.
YM Lab 14 is expected to serve as a cutting-edge learning centre, enhancing innovation, creativity, research, and leadership potential among students. The facility will be equipped with Information and Communication Technology (ICT) resources, multimedia content, a Maker Space with robotics, Augmented Reality/Virtual Reality (AR/VR) learning tools, and 3D printing technology.

The lab will directly benefit over 3,439 students, including 1,788 males and 1,651 females from ten schools in the Kaleo community. The 36-seater EDUlab, which includes a Maker Space and a conference room, is designed to provide students with hands-on experience to complement their classroom learning.
Speaker Bagbin, as the promoter of the initiative, has reiterated his commitment to bridging educational gaps in his district through collaborative efforts, stakeholder engagement, and securing sustainable funding to expand the initiative.
“This project is about empowering the next generation with the necessary skills to compete in a technologically advancing world,” he remarked ahead of the commissioning.
Since its inception in 2016, the Yamoransa Model Labs Program has successfully established 14 labs across 13 regions in Ghana, with plans to expand to the Savannah and Upper East Regions through government partnerships.
The ceremony is expected to attract major stakeholders, including Members of Parliament, government officials, representatives from District Assemblies, Ghana Education Service, civil society organisations, non-governmental organisations, students, and private sector institutions.
An exhibition will also be held to showcase the facilities in the lab, offering attendees a first-hand experience of the transformative impact it will have on students’ education.
