We want rerun of primary- Upper Manya NDC appeals to Prez

The Upper Manya Krobo Constituency of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has made a passionate appeal to the President, Mr John Dramani Mahama, to prevail on the national executive of the party to rerun the November 21, 2015 parliamentary primary in the constituency for peace to prevail.

“We are in an election year and we need absolute peace to prevail in the party in the constituency so as to prepare well for this year’s election, but now there is no peace and it will be quite dangerous for the party if this situation prevails till November this year,” the statement emphasised.

The party members made the appeal in a press statement issued by Timothy Nyumutei, a member of the party, at Sekesua.

Fraudulent declaration

According to the statement, the declaration of the results a day after the election by one Isaac Offei Baah, who is not an employee of the Electoral Commission, raised an eyebrow which was fraudulent and questionable, to say the least.

The statement alleged that on the eve of the parliamentary primary, the incumbent Member of Parliament, Mr Jeff Tetteh Kavianu, had an emergency meeting with Mr Bismark Tawiah Boateng, the Eastern Regional Chairman of the party, and the Upper Manya Krobo District Director of the Electoral

Commission, Mr Moses Mbawe, at the Shai Hills Resort Hotel at Asasehene, near Asesewa. According to the statement, the party members thought that meeting was used to mastermind the outcome of the election the following day.

Mr Nyumutei said all appeals to the regional executive of the party to help resolve the issue amicably for peace to prevail to see the way forward for the election assignment on hand could not yield any results as the regional executive were rather creating disaffection in the constituency.

Voice of people

“This implies that the statement made by Mr Tawiah Boateng and Mark Oliver Kevor, the Regional Secretary, on Myjoyonline.com as response to the petition by Bismark Tetteh Nyarko, the other contestant of the Upper Manya Krobo Constituency primary, was premised on the said meeting held at Shai Hills Resort Hotel,” the statement said.

“We the members of the NDC in the Upper Manya Krobo totally reject the letter by the Eastern Regional Executive Committee and we are saying that, if the national executive fails to obey the voice of the people and allow injustice to prevail, then the NDC supporters in the Upper Manya Krobo Constituency will advise themselves come November 2016,” it added.
