We will pursue co-ordinated development — Minister

The Upper East Regional Minister, Alhaji Limuna Mohammed-Muniru,  last Monday said his administration was working tirelessly towards a cohesive and well co-ordinated development agenda for the region.

He indicated that the new approach was in pursuance of the government agenda to bring the needed development to the people in consonance with the party’s manifesto and as part of the “Better Ghana Agenda”.

The minister said this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency on his development plans for the region in 2014.

Alhaji Mohammed-Muniru noted that it had become extremely necessary to refocus and redirect the approach to development and development planning, saying he was particularly concerned about conflicts, especially between chief executives and Members of Parliament.

He said every development must be geared towards the welfare of the people;  hence  the need to bring stakeholders together for a co-ordinated development plan.

He said the various assemblies would be urged to table their development priorities and work closely with other development partners, especially non-governmental organisations,  to avoid duplications of projects and programmes.

These,  he indicated, would be fully co-ordinated by the Regional Co-ordinating Council (RCC) to ensure that the assemblies  would work to specifications for all the projects and meet deadlines.

Alhaji Mohammed-Muniru said to pursue such an agenda, there was the need for all institutions, groups and individuals in the region to co-operate with his outfit.

The minister mentioned health, road networks, food security and education as key to government development plans and said the assemblies would be encouraged to plan their priority projects in those sectors.

The Upper East Deputy Minister,  Mr Daniel Syme,  who was with the minister,  praised the people for conducting themselves peacefully during the Yuletide and urged them to maintain the peace in the region.
