Burial and final funeral rites for Ghana’s football legend, Charles Kumi Gyamfi (C.K. Gyamfi) who died on September 2, this year will be held between Friday, December 18 and Sunday December  20 , 2015.

 Abusuapanin Kwasi Aniagyei Kumi , Larteh Asokyede family  head, who announced the funeral arrangements, said the late C.K. Gyamfi would be laid in state at the forecourt of the State House in Accra at 7a.m. on Friday, December 18 followed by memorial service at the same place.

Ashgold sign deal with Don Simon

Champion club, AshantiGold, yesterday signed a one-year sponsorship deal with Spain-based J.Garcia Carrion, producers of Don Simon Fruit juice.

It’s the second sponsorship deal to be secured by the Miners from two Spanish companies within a month.

The contract was facilitated by Permafix Industries Limited (leading tile adhesive manufactures and the club’s headline sponsors) through the initiative of Mr Marco Polo, Financial Director of Permafix Industries Limited.

Ernest Sowah eyes Stars

 Newly signed Kumasi Asante Kotoko goalie, Ernest Sowah, insists  the stiff competition he faces at the stables of the Porcupine Warriors will motivate him to be a better shot-stopper and ensure his quick return to the senior national team, the Black Stars.

Sowah, who completed a three-year deal in October to join the Porcupine Warriors after cancelling his contract with Congolese side CS Don Bosco, conceded in an interview with the Graphic Sports that he faces a scramble for the first-choice  with competition from Eric Ofori Antwi, Felix Annan and Isaac Amoako (injured) at his new club.

Hayford disputes reasons for his sack from Hearts

 Dismissed Hearts of Oak midfielder, Emmanuel Hayford and the club have traded counter accusations over allegation of commitment and indiscipline leading to the dismissal from the club.

While Hearts News report suggested the club had to dispense with the services of Emmanuel Hayford on grounds of indiscipline and truancy, the player told Happy FM in an interview that those allegations were unfounded based on how he sacrificed for the club.

Evergreen Chemicals fence 4 Garrison Club

Miswa Chemicals based in Northampton in the United Kingdom, producers of Polygard products, including Kilit Insecticide, has through its local distributors, the Evergreen Chemicals Limited, fenced the tennis courts of the 4 Garrison Tennis Club in Kumasi, a project that cost the company GH¢23,000.

The Managing Director of the Evergreen Chemicals Limited, Mr John Dele and his wife, Abigail Dele, handed over the facility to the General Officer Commanding the Central Command, Brig. Gen Joseph Adu Boampong, a patron of the club.

They also promised to support the club with series of tournament and other pressing needs to develop tennis in the Ashanti Region.

Mr Dele told the Graphic Sports it was time the National Sports Authority gave other disciplines the right boost to develop and grow.

He said his desire to sponsor tennis was his contribution towards helping budding talents in the sport and help it to grow.

Gyan: I’m cleared of rape charges: ...But Maurice Ampaw disputes claims

Black Stars skipper, Asamoah Gyan, is set for a legal showdown with tough-talking legal practitioner, Dr Maurice Ampaw, over his media pronouncements regarding the alleged rape and unnatural carnal knowledge of Ampaw's client, Sarah Kwablah.

According to Mr Agyebeng, Gyan has been cleared of all of Sarah's allegations by the Attorney General's (AG) department and has directed his legal team to take action against anyone who defames him in respect of the issue.

Gyan's lawyers, Cromwell Grey LLP, represented by the managing partner, Agyebeng, who spoke at a press conference in Accra yesterday at which Gyan was absent, said the Attorney General's department had "concluded that the rape and unnatural carnal knowledge allegations made by Sarah Kwablah against Asamoah Gyan are totally baseless and that the docket should be closed".

A former player of the Black Stars, James Kuuku Dadzie, has passionately appealed to the various committees of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to be swift and strict in applying the statutes of the association in matters of dispute without prejudice.

He said if the rules governing the game were swept under the carpet or the rules bent in the interest of certain parties, the country’s football would continue to suffer.

Korblah wins GoldFields PGA

Emos Korblah has won this year’s Goldfield's Professional Golfers Association (PGA) of Ghana golf championship played at the Damang Golf Course in the Western Region.

He prevented Nigeria’s Sunday Odegha from winning the competition after dominated the for the first three days.

Korblah overtook Odegha on the final day with a total score of 286 and took home a cash prize of GH¢25,000, while Odegha followed with a score of 288.

Swimming course for schools

Plans are far advanced to introduce swimming lessons into the Ghanaian School curricular aimed at attracting schoolchildren to the swimming sport.

Mr John Mensah Anang, a staff at the Curriculum Research and Development Unit of the Ghana Education Service (GES)   said the GES was working with Felix Fitness Foundation (FFF), a swimming and aqua survival training organisation, to develop the swimming lessons.

At a swimming championship organised by the FFF for children between the ages of one and 17 years, at the A& C Mall in Accra, Mr Anang explained that the world was experiencing natural disasters such as earthquake and flooding as well as climate change which had affected the lives of the vulnerable, including children.

Hearts move training to Legon

Accra Hearts of Oak have moved their training to the Legon Park after using the grassless Police Depot Park at Tesano in Accra as their base for nearly six weeks.

Hearts’ management had been under intense pressure since their coach, Kenichi Yatsuhashi moved the team to the Police Depot Park which has rough surface.

Ashanti Gold has set a Money Zone target for their head coach, Bashir Hayford, aka Coach Bash, in their Africa Champions League campaign next year.

Kotoko wallop ex-Black Stars

Kumasi Asante Kotoko yesterday defeated a team of former Black Stars players 4-2 to win the 1965 AFCON squad fundraising trophy at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The non-competitive tie was witnessed by a sizeable crowd, including former President Jerry John Rawlings, GFA president Kwesi Nyantakyi and Kennedy Agyepong of Kenpong Group of Companies, one of the sponsors of the match. It brought together the cream of the Black Stars team which reached the final of the 1992 Nations Cup in Senegal as they teamed up to pit their strength against the newly crowned SWAG Cup champions.

Banku demands new date for Powers rematch

Comical boxer, Braimah Kamoko, known in boxing circles as Bukom Banku, has demanded a new date for his much-publicised rematch with Michael Ayittey Powers, saying he prefers to fight his old foe on Friday, February 26, next year.

With just three weeks to the big fight, Kamoko has asked Landmark Promotions, promoters of the fight, to postpone it for two more months due to perceived bias against him.

Last Saturday, Bukom Banku released a video of himself on YouTube citing a number of reasons why he wanted a postponement of the December 26 fight scheduled for the Baba Yara stadium in Kumasi.

New deal for Coach Bash

Coach Bashir Hayford has been rewarded with a two-year extension of his deal by his employers, AshantiGold, after spearheading the club’s Premier League success nearly 19 years since they first won it.

Coach Hayford, who was also adjudged the Best Coach of the Premier League at the recent Premier League Board (PLB) awards, signed the deal some two weeks ago.

The contract of the coach, who joined the ‘Soccer Miners’ from Tarkwa-based Medeama FC, expired at the end of last season.
