According to a statement posted on the website of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF), after the World Anti-doping Association had conducted a series of tests on the athletes, the Nigerian athlete tested positive for a banned substance.

The Weightlifting Federation of Africa (WFA) is standing by to carry out the necessary directives from its international body with respect to the medals won under the discipline at the AAG.

To that end, Ghana’s Ruth Bafffoe who placed fourth at the games could be handed three bronze medals if the issue is rectified by the IWF.

Nigeria’s Elizabeth Onuah won gold in the 53 KG category at the games.
