Police inspector Paulo Roberto Poli told the Globo TV network that Jorge Luis Lopez flew out of the car and hit a concrete wall, and died instantly. The cab driver suffered minor injuries. The three occupants of the stolen car were arrested.

Lopez was working for Argentine sports daily Ole and La Red radio station in Buenos Aires.

He was the second Argentine journalist killed in a road accident while covering the World Cup.

Last week, Maria Soledad Fernandez was killed when the car she was riding in lost control and went over a cliff.  —AP
