Accra Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare has been handed his first start in Ghana’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations Group C qualifier against The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium this afternoon.
The goalkeeper is one of three changes made by Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz following Ghana’s 2-0 defeat to Côte d’Ivoire in Bouaké last Thursday.
Jonas Adjetey replaces the injured Alexander Djiku in central defence, while Felix Afena-Gyan comes in for Christopher Bonsu Baah.
Asare starts behind a back four of Kojo Oppong Peprah, Gideon Mensah, Jonas Adjetey and Jerome Opoku.
Kwasi Sibo and Caleb Yirenkyi retain their places in midfield, while Abdul Fatawu Issahaku and Afena-Gyan will operate on the wings.
Ernest Nuamah will play in the attacking midfield role behind lone striker Brandon Thomas-Asante.
The Black Stars are seeking their first points in Group C after suffering defeat in their opening fixture against Côte d’Ivoire.
