Azumah Nelson Fight Night; Year of Return edition launched

The Azumah Nelson Fight Night series returns with a bang on December 27 with Michael "One Bullet" Ansah and Benjamin "Daddy Lumba" Lamptey slugging it out for the Professional Boxing Council Lightweight and Interim National Lightweight title at the Bukom Boxing Arena in Accra.

Christened "The Year of Return Edition", organisers say the six-fight bill headlined by the Ansah versus Lamptey clash is a showpiece event which targets the thousands who are visiting Ghana as part of the Year of Return celebration which is intended to encourage African diasporans to come to Africa (specifically Ghana) to settle and invest in the continent.

At a press conference to herald the eighth-edition of the Azumah Nelson Fight Night on Friday, Ansah said he was out for revenge after losing twice to Lamptey when they were both amateur boxers.

He predicted that he would stop Lamptey in the fifth round of the scheduled 12-round contest.

Lamptey said he was aware of the abilities of Ansah and was confident of continuing his winning streak against his opponent.

The bill also features Felix Ajom battling Michael Pappoe for the National and WABU Super Featherweight title while Ishmael Tetteh contends with Delali Miledzi in an eight-round Super-Middleweight Contest.

The undercard is completed by bouts involving Musa Lawson and Naimou Samson Aziz in an International Super Welterweight contest, Faisal Abubaka contends with Sossa Cudjo Hypolite in an International Super Lightweight contest while former Olympic Games participant Manyo Plange faces off with Isaac Nettey in a Super Bantamweight clash.

Boxing legend Azumah Nelson promised that in keeping with the reputation of the event, patrons are in for a "Christmas bonus" of excitement.

"The Azumah Nelson Fight Night is always tough and this edition will also be very tough and nobody should miss it," he said.

The matchmaker of the event, Abdul Rasheed Williams added that the two titles up for grabs will serve as added motivation for the headline acts come fight night.

Ringside tickets for the fight are going for GHC 450, with VIP and regular tickets priced at GHC 200 and GHC 20 respectively.

The Azumah Nelson Fight Night Year of Return Edition is organised by Azumah Nelson Boxing Promotions with support from ABSA, Year of Return, GOIL, TT Brothers and GeoDrill Ghana.
