Black Stars midfielder Michael Baidoo joins Plymouth Argyle in record transfer deal

Ghana international Michael Baidoo has completed a move to Championship club Plymouth Argyle in a record transfer deal until 2028.

The 25-year-old midfielder has signed a three-and-a-half-year contract with the English side, arriving from Swedish club IF Elfsborg. The reported €1.7 million transfer fee makes Baidoo Argyle’s most expensive signing as the club looks to improve its fortunes.

Baidoo concludes a successful three-year spell with Elfsborg, where he enjoyed a standout period. Before his time in Sweden, he played for Sandnes Ulf in Norway and FC Midtjylland in Denmark, also having loan spells at Jerv and Fredericia.

In his career, Baidoo has impressed in European competitions, scoring five goals and providing three assists in the Europa League, including the qualification phase. He also netted 10 goals and registered four assists during the 2024 Allsvenskan season.

With Argyle struggling in the Championship this season, the former Vision FC captain will be looking to make an immediate impact and provide the team with a much-needed boost.

Baidoo will wear the number 30 jersey and is awaiting EFL approval and international clearance. He is expected to be available for selection when Argyle travels to Brentford on January 11.

The deal has been facilitated by Baidoo’s Ghanaian representative, Kofi Appiah, who played a key role in the transfer.
