According to Graphic Sports investigations, the former Hearts assistant coach is close to signing a two-year deal as the new head coach of Dwarfs.

Preko is set to replace Prosper Narteh Ogum, who has stepped down after saving Dwarfs from demotion in the past season.

According to a grapevine source, Coach Ogum opted to return to the lecture room at his University of Cape Coast on the grounds that it would be difficult to combine the challenges associated with coaching Dwarfs with academic work.

Coach Ogum, a lecturer at the Cape Coast University, was seconded to Dwarfs till the end of last season and succeeded in transforming the club from the bottom to finish 10th in the 2015/2016 Premier League after replacing veteran J.E. Sarpong in the first round.

Preko, who supervised Hearts’ third place finishing as the acting head coach following the sudden departure of the revered Yatsuhashi, is expected to bring his experience to bear on his first full task as the head coach in the elite league.

His immediate assignment after assuming duty will be to assess the materials available to him and recommend new players who can help him succeed  in his new job.

The former Hearts, Anderlecht and Fenerbahce winger has been an assistant coach for the national U-20 side, Black Satellites, for sometime now and is rated among the new generation of promising local coaches.

In a related development, the short-term appointment of former Black Stars striker, Kim Grant, who was also appointed the technical director of Dwarfs alongside Coach Ogum, has ended.
