Eleven Wonders, Bofoakwa Tano clash for final Premier League ticket
Two former premier league sides, Techiman Eleven Wonders FC and Bofoakwa Tano FC, meet in a potentially bruising clash on Tuesday afternoon at the Accra Sports Stadium in the Access Bank Division One League play-off final for the final qualifying ticket to the betPawa Premier League. Kick-off: 3pm.
The two sides top their respective groups in Zone One of the second-tier league, with the winner joining Kpando Heart of Lions (Zone 3) and Nations FC (Zone 2) who booked their place in the elite league after winning their zonal competitions this month.
Eleven Wonders will aim at returning to the topflight competition a year after suffering relegation, while onetime traditional giant Bofoakwa will fight to make it back to the elite division following their demotion at the end of the 2006/07 football season.
Bofoakwa Tano FC staged a spirited second round performance in the Zone One B league, breaking away from their closest rivals Young Apostles after an initial two-horse race, winning the competition with 63 points – opening a 15-point lead over Young Apostles.
In this afternoon’s playoff, Bofoakwa will look to their forward Sakaa Dauda to spearhead their attack after finishing the season as joint top scorer of the zone with nine goals –- a position he shared with Amponsah Aveo (Berekum Arsenal) and Bismark Kyeremeh of Wamanafo Mighty Royals.
Eleven Wonders, on the other hand, beat off competition from Debibi United and Steadfast FC to win the zone with 52 points from 28 matches – five points ahead of Debibi United.
They Techiman lads ended the campaign with the leading goal scorers in the zone, with Andrews Kumah (10 goals) and Osman Zackaria (eight goals) both expected to spearhead their attack in this afternoon’s clash in Accra.
