Everest Cricket Club champions again

Everest Cricket Club are champions again - retaining the Greater Accra Cricket Invitational Tournament title when they defeated rivals BGC Cricket Club in the final by nine wickets at the Achimota Cricket Oval.

BGC scored 86 runs, all out in 19.1 overs after batting first upon winning the toss. Everest then stroked 87 runs for the loss of only 1 wicket in 15.3 overs. BGC made a poor start quickly losing three batsmen in the first 5 overs with Everest fast bowler David Nii Ashong Ankrah tearing through the BGC batting line-up.

The match between Oasis and Nsromma Titans was reduced to 15 overs due to time limitation. Oasis scored 63 runs for 9 wickets in 15 overs but Nsromma were too strong and scored 65 runs for 2 wickets in 13.4 overs.

Nsromma Titans thus came third while Oasis placed fourth in the tournament In other matches, Dilmah forced GTA to a ‘Super Over’ and eventually won by nine runs to claim the fifth position.

The game saw both teams producing 85 runs apiece with GTA all out in 17.3 overs while Dilmah lost nine wickets in 20 overs.

In the Super Over, Dilmah scored 13 runs for no wicket in  with GTA scoring four runs for two wickets.

City CC automatically placed seventh, with a selected U-19 team coming eighth as they could not raise a team for the finals.

Everest triumphed to become champions again, taking the best bowler- Swapnil Sakharka, best batsman with 154 runs  while- Bharani Kumar Majii was adjudged the best bowler with 15 wickets.

The Captain of Everest, Ramesh Naidu, in an interview with the Graphic Sports, expressed delight at the wonderful performance of his club.

He said: “It is a proud moment for us to win this tournament consecutively. Our boys worked hard with practice on Fridays and Saturdays. We played consistently well and also took motivation from the Diwali Cup last month.”

The Vice-President of the Ghana Cricket Association, Emmanuel Kwame Asare, who presented the trophies, acknowledged the hard work and commitment of all the participating teams.

“I have witnessed a fiercely fought tournament. I think we have a worthy champion and I hope we can put our efforts together to have a better tournament next season.

” Mr Asare thanked all for their hard work and commitment towards the success of the tournament.

The Secretary of the Greater Accra Cricket Association, Bruce Okine, was grateful to all the teams. He also thanked all stakeholders, especially GCA, for their support which ensured a successful tournament.
