FA not opposed to Stars bonus - Afriyie

George Afriyie, the vice president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA),  says the association will not resist any attempt by government to slash the winning bonuses of the Black Stars players.

But he feels the approach which he describes as Rambo Style to force down unto the throat of the players,  a bonus cut  is inimical and can fiercely be resisted by the players.

"Slashing is not a problem but the idea of take-it-or-leave-it by some government officials in the past won't work," he warned.

Reacting to the Minister of Youth and Sports,  Nii Lante Vanderpuye’s comment in a meeting with the executives of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana(SWAG) that he intended to cut winning bonuses of the Black Stars, Afriyie who doubles as the chairman of the Black Stars Management Committee insisted that no such issue popped up when they interacted with the minister and stated that what Vanderpuye said had been misrepresented by the media.

According to Afriyie, the minister rather explained the financial challenges of the ministry but promised to pay them their bonuses based on how much was available.
