GAHA holds AGM Sat

The Greater Accra Hockey Association (GAHA) will hold its Annual General Meeting on Saturday with the quest for a new sponsor at the top of the agenda.

The Association is without a headline sponsor for the next hockey season after separate agreements with Bajfreight and Logistics and Dwadifo Adanfo for the respective gala and league competitions came to an end for different reasons.

The sponsorship from Bajfreight and Logistics ended last year, while that of the league sponsor, Dwadifo Adanfo, was brought to an abrupt end after the microfinance company failed to honour its financial obligations to the GAHA.

The chairman of the GAHA, George Haizel, told the Daily Graphic that his outfit was braced for a "tough year" which will require them to finance their activities and competitions from their own internally generated funds (IGF).

"For the past two years we have been running the league without the support of our headline sponsor, Dwadifo Adanfo," Mr Haizel told the Daily Graphic.

He continued, "Last year, just like the previous year, we respected the contract by giving them (Dwadifo Adanfo) mileage even though we didn't receive any money from them.

"However, this year if we are unable to find a headline sponsor before the start of the season we will fund the league ourselves from our internally generated funds and subscription fees while we embark on a search for new sponsors."

Meanwhile, the GAHA is expected to admit two new teams and announce a date for the start of the season at Saturday's Annual General Meeting.
