GFA Congress in Tamale today

GFA Congress in Tamale today

The president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Mr Kwesi Nyantakyi, will today be affirmed at a Delegates Congress at the Tamale Stadium to begin his third term in office.

Mr Nyantakyi will be returned unnoposed at the much-awaited congress in line with the GFA Statutes after emerging as the only candidate to file his nomination for the FA presidency.

According to a GFA source, the decision to host this year’s congress for the first time in Tamale was in fulfilment of a proposal which was approved at the last congress in Prampram a few months back.

Mr Nyantakyi, who has led the association since 2005, was expected to be challenged by Ofeibea Ramatu and others but they failed to secure the needed endorsement to beat the deadline for the filing of nominations.

The event will see 123 delegates from the various clubs and GFA’s constituent bodies converging on the northern regional capital for the congress.

The GFA got the nod to go to congress after an Accra Fast Track High Court had dismissed an application by John Kwame Quayson seeking an order to restrain the FA from holding today’s event.

Nyantakyi’s endorsement will be followed by the election of Regional Football Association chairmen and FA Executive Committee members next month.
