Ghana: Thousands compete in Millennium Marathon

After months of preparation and anticipation, the inaugural Millennium Marathon is here and over 4,000 professional and amateur runners to hit the road to compete in the 21km and 5km races respectively as well as the Ambassadorial Run.

The Marathon, which has marathon and world long distance legend Haile Gebrselassie as the number one participant and ambassador, has attracted over 300 foreign runners.

The professional race which has prizes at stake, will be run over 21km while the family and corporate run will be over 5km. Both races will start and end at the Independence Square.

The professional runners will get off the starting blocks at the starter’s gun at 6.15a.m. while the 5km race start 15 minutes later. The Ambassadorial run will take place at 6.45 a.m.
