Tofik tips Gameboy to excel in US

Boxing promoter, trainer and match-maker, Alhaji Muritella Tofik, believes former world champion, Emmanuel ‘Gameboy’ Tagoe, will take boxing more seriously when he gets to the United States.

According to the executive member of the Ghana Boxing Authority(GBA), Tagoe would be more serious in the ring when he meets hard-hitters and power punches in his US sojourn.

“Gameboy will be a world champion again. He is a good boxer and will make his name in the US”, he assured in an interview with the Daily Graphic in Accra last Wednesday.

“I know Tagoe very well; he has not met his match yet. Against George Ashie we all saw what he did; he has not met a boxer such as Ashie and the like again”, he said.

Tagoe,30, (30-1-0) defeated Vyacheslav Gusev a week ago to win the vacant International Boxing Federation (IBF) International lightweight title and World Boxing Organisation (WBO)Global Lightweight title at the Arena in his last bout in the country before joining the famous LouDibella Boxing Entertainment in the United States in search of a world title.

Boxing fans have criticised the fighter for his theatrics in the ring and comical display towards his opponents since defeating George Ashie in their famous bout at the Accra Stadium in November 2012.

But Alhaji Tofik, who saw the genesis of the once fearful puncher, has questioned the credibility, strength and stamina of his opponents.

“The thing about Tagoe is that he has not met a strong, agile and power puncher since George Ashie, hence his playful habit in the ring during bouts”, he noted.

Alhaji Tofik maintained that the boxer, popularly referred to as ‘Gameboy’, will prove his mettle among his peers  in the United States.
