‘Gov’t must enforce sports laws’
A lecturer at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), Ali Nakyea Abdallah, has called for the enforcement of existing laws to aid the promotion of sports development in the country.
He said this when he addressed participants at the one- day conference on Sports Financing at the Movenpick Hotel in Accra.

According to Abdallah, laws such as the Sports Law Act 1976 ( S.MC.D 54), National Lotto Act 2006 (Act 722), Gaming Act 2006 ( Act 721) and the Ministries and Departments Retention Act existed to help in the financing of sports in the country.
He urged the government to establish a finance and economic committee to see to the execution of the laws if none existed.
He said: “Most companies are not aware of such laws that offer them leverage whenever they go into sponsorship with sports organisations.
“Betting companies should be levied and the funds generated be used in enhancing sports in the country”.
He recommended that the “District Assemblies Common Fund be amended to involve sports”.
