Graphic’s Samuel Konadu Games Sat. G-Pak keen to retain bragging rights
G-Pak, winners of the 2016 Inter-departmental Health Walk and Fun Games of the Graphic Communications Group Limited, have vowed to retain the title tomorrow at the El-Wak Sports Stadium, promising to line up well conditioned athletes to execute what they described as “the simple job”.
Last year, G-Pak won nine out of 21 events to claim the title from Newspapers and won the giant trophy for overall best team, the cash prizes, medals as well as the bragging rights.
James Edu Dadzie, Director of G-Pak, yesterday told Daily Graphic that his outfit was ready to shrug off competition from the other departments and win the ultimate for the third time.
“We have spent a substantial amount of resources preparing for the games, as we are keen on defending the trophy. We have heard all the noise that our colleagues in the other departments are making, but we will silence them on Saturday.
“Last year we outnumbered them and the story will not be different this year. We have what it takes to win again,” Mr Dadzie, who will be leading the entire team, and feature in the volleyball competition, said.
So far, members of the various departments have intensified training as they seek to wrest the ultimate from the defending champions.
The Newspapers Department won the 2013 edition of the games followed by G-Pak in 2014 but Newspapers bounced back strongly in 2015 to reclaim the title, dethroning G-Pak.
The games, dubbed the Samuel Konadu Cup, will see the units competing in events such as five-a-side football, tug of war, volleyball, lime-and-spoon race, table tennis, eating from a string, 4 x 100 metre race, 100 metre race and sack race.
The games will be preceded by a walk along some principal streets of Accra and back to the El Wak stadium.
It has been named Samuel Konadu Games in honour of a member of staff who died in the line of duty on the morning of the maiden games on September 22, 2012.
