Kenyans dominated the 2026 KGL Foundation Millennium Half Marathon, sweeping the top three positions in both the men’s and women’s 21-kilometre races at an event that attracted more than 8,000 runners from around the world.
Alex Kori-Keng emerged winner of the men’s race in 1:02:12.20, taking the top prize of GH¢70,000. Amon-Kon finished second in 1:02:18.65 to earn GH¢50,000, while fellow Kenyan Simon Kelenzyoki placed third in 1:02:47.39 and received GH¢30,000.
In the women’s race, Lucy Nthenya Ndambuki of Kenya won in 1:08:35 to claim GH¢80,000 (incuding an additional GH¢10,000 for breaking the course record). Lilian Jepkemoi Lelei took second in 1:12:16.29 for GH¢50,000, while Agnes Mumbus Nigo completed the Kenyan sweep in third place with 1:12:50.92, earning GH¢30,000.
The 5km races also produced competitive finishes, with Ghanaian athletes featuring among the leading performers. Abotsi Daniel Gawuya won the men’s category in 14:20.76, followed by Ebenezer Martey in 14:38.26 and Dotse Mensah in 14:52.55.
In the women’s category, Twoleng Reina emerged winner in 17:46.91, with Nafisa Alhassa finishing second in 17:55.28 and Edwina Happiness third in 18:16.47.
He noted that the Millennium Marathon is a labelled race on the World Athletics calendar, highlighting its international status. Mr Buamah thanked the runners and urged them to continue believing in the Millennium Marathon as it grows into an international road-running event.
“We thank our headline partner, KGL Foundation, and all our sponsors for the kind support in making this year’s event a big success,” he said.
Chief Executive Officer of KGL Foundation, Elliot Dadey, expressed delight at the success of the event.
Race Manager Ernest Buamah described the event as a major success, expressing gratitude to partners, sponsors, stakeholders and participants whose support made the race possible.
“This year’s event recorded over 8,000 runners participating in the run from all over the world,” Mr Buamah said, while congratulating athletes and runners.
“So much has gone on behind the scenes from the Millennium Marathon side and from the KGL side and I love how we have been able to come together to make this a success. I’m just super proud of my team and super proud of everyone who has run today,” he said.
The organisers expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, Ghana Athletics, the National Sports Authority, Ghana Military Police, MTTD, Ghana Police Service, Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly and Ghana Red Cross for helping ensure safety along the route.
The special guests included CID boss COP Lydia Yaaka Donko, while the Chief of Defence Staff was represented by Brigadier General Akoto.
