Kudus’ move a plus for Ghana - CK Akonnor

Black Stars coach, Charles Kwablan Akonnor, has praised Mohammed Kudus' decision to move to the Dutch league as against interest from the English Premier League.

Describing the player as a great talent whose potentials needed to be further nurtured to blossom, the Ghanaian gaffer said he was happy to see his players move to bigger clubs.

Speaking to Graphic Sports in an interview last Thursday, the 46-year-old trainer said moving to the English Premier League would have been a bad option for now because the player needed more playing time.

"It's a necessary move he made. It would have been wrong if he moved to England now because he needs to choose a club where he will get enough playing time.

"Once he is fully matured the English teams would come chasing him so I think it’s good he moved to Ajax where he will be playing more regularly," the ex-Wolfsburg star stated.

The 19-year-old Ghana international completed a $9m transfer move from FC Nordsjaelland of Denmark giants Ajax in the Dutch Eredivisie last week with the hope of playing in the UEFA Champions League next season.

Coach Akonnor said he was excited by that development because he wanted to see most of his players play at the high level of football in Europe and described Kudus' movement as welcome news for all Ghanaians.

"I love to see my players play in bigger clubs and in the Champions League. I feel good about this because other players like Thomas Partey has been in the news about a transfer and Jordan Ayew is also playing very well," Coach Akonnor observed.

He said that was not only good for the players but the nation as a whole because if the players were performing at the highest stage it influences their performance at the national level.

"It is a plus for Ghana because when they are doing well; they are able to play well when they come to the national team," he explained.

The ex-Bundesliga star advised the Ghanaian midfielder to look beyond the sky in order to work hard, believe in himself and remain focused in his new club so he could become an outstanding player.
