League for young cricket players begins

The Ghana Cricket Association (GCA),  in a bid to nurture talents has begun a league for Under 15 and 19 players at the Achimota School cricket grounds.

It is being sponsored by Nsoromma Tracking GPS Ghana, Bush Kanteen, CH Group, AD & TS, PETRAX TRUST, NME GHANA, Parlays  Bisquits, Brookman & Associates and Turf Techniques. 

Mr. Henry Benjamin Ackom, GCA operations officer, who briefed the Graphic Sports  said, 13 teams would be competing for honours in the competition. He said five teams  would also compete in the Mixed League.

According to him, teams such as, Taysec Titans, Petrax Dolphins, Bush Kanteen Sharks, Nsoroma GPS Super XI, Motown XI, Turf One,  Kwabotwe Freshers and Achimota School XI  will compete in the Under 19  category, with  NME Pioneers, Taysec Stars, Petrax Stars, Angel Data Kings and Brookman Dons,  making up for the Boys  Under-14 division.

On the Mixed League, Mr. Ackom said the competing teams were  Parlays Queens, Angel Data, Mensima Angels, Nsoroma Lillies and Prof One Ladies.

He disclosed that the programme was  a follow up to the successful maiden league last year, put together by Nsoroma Cricket Academy. 

“ It is expected that the League would develop fresh talents to feed the national U-19 squad in the coming years,” he noted.
