Manasseh, Awuni and Karanga win big at 88th Ghana Golf Open tourney

Sensational Ghanaian professional golfer Augustine Manasseh secured his fourth title of the year, winning the Professional event at the just ended 88th Ghana Open Golf Tournament held at the Centre of the World Golf Club in Tema.

Manasseh, played seven under par 281 to win the event hosted by the Ghana Golf Association.

His victory was secured on the second day of the four-day tournament when he played a three under par 69 which contributed to him edging his competitors to the title.

Enoch Kofi Owusu and Vincent Torgah came second with scored of 282 each.

Speaking to the Daily Graphic in an interview, Manasseh reflected on what he described as his biggest win since turning professional barely a year ago.

He said his biggest challenge after his opponents was the rainy weather, adding that he was looking forward to competing with the best golfers in Africa and beyond next year.

Amateur Event

Kenya’s leading amateur golfer Michael Karanga played six under 210 to clinch the men's amateur title.

Karanga, a member of Ndumberi and Kiambu Golf Club in Kenya produced a superb round of five under 67 on the closing day of the 54-hole tournament to win his first international title.

He beat sensational junior golfer Rickie Hurtubise by five strokes. The youngster recovered from a disappointing first round 81, to shoot 71 and 73 in the last two rounds for a total of 225 gross.

Ladies contest

In the Ladies Championship, Constance Awuni, from the Royal Golf Club, Kumasi won the Championship Ladies event with an overall score of 242.

She beat Bernice Esi Dzitorwoko (253) and Jessica Tei (258) into second and third place respectively.

Other big winners included Michael Nyarko who won the Handicap Men title, Vivian Dick who won the Ladies Support event, Anthony Tang who emerged the Men's Support winner and Dawda Mahama who emerged the Senior Professional winner.
