Medeama in do-or-die battle as they chase CAF Confederation Cup Money Zone

Tarkwa-based Medeama SC are in one of the most difficult situations in their continental pursuits as they encounter a formidable Memlodi Sundowns this afternoon at the Sekondi Stadium, Essipon, this afternoon without their Swedish tactician, Tom Strand.

Strand virtually abandoned the team shortly after leading the them to 1-3 defeat in Pretoria and subsequently flew to his native Sweden.

His action has left many wondering whether the 33-year coach had a different mission when he led the team to the South African country, particularly when one considers the tactics he employed in the closing stages of the match which saw the Ghanaian side surrender what a appeared a drawn advantage to that crushing 1-3 defeat.

The troubles inflicted on Medeama’s camp by the controversies stirred by Strand have added to the huge task ahead of today’s game and a huge burden has been placed on Coach Augustine Adotey.

But Medeama are taking consolation in the fact that the veteran tactician is no stranger to that team and had often provided the technical inspiration in their most difficult times, and today would not be an exception.

Even though the current arithmetic’s put the Ghanaian side at a disadvantage they have a consistent side that had often risen to the occassion, particularly at the Essipon venue where they have conquered some of the most formidable sides in continental club history.

Fortunately Medeama still have Muntari Tagoe, Malik Akowuah, Kwame Boahene, Akwasi Donsu who were part of the group that missed the Money Zone narrowly two years ago as well as Abass Mohammed and Benjamin and Samuel Bio Daniel Amoah to restore the dream.

And as stated by Coach Adotey,“It is good we had an away goal there, we just have to capitalise on it and try to score two or three goals.
