Nana Wereko-Ampim, delivering his address during the inaugural ceremony of Jachie United Football Club

Nana Wereko-Ampim inaugurates Jachie United FC

A board member of Special Olympics, Nana Wereko-Ampim Opoku, last Sunday inaugurated a  third division football club at Jachie in the Bosomtwe district of Ashanti  with an assurance of offering meaningful  support to players and technical men of the club  in diverse ways.

This, he said, would not only induce the youth with potentials in soccer to nurture and develop their talents, but would also motivate them to compete favourably with other clubs and qualify to compete in the Premier League within the next three years.

As part of the inauguration of the club, dubbed Jachie United, Nana Wereko-Ampim, who is the founder of the club, and the area manager of the Tudu branch of Ecobank Ghana, presented a number of footballs, two sets of jerseys, 20 sets of football boots, two sets of training shirts, 20 hoses and 20 shin guards, as well as goalkeepers jerseys and two sets of keepers gloves to the club.

In his address, he challenged the team to exhibit positive attitudes towards training and in competitive matches with the view of being outstanding in their performances.

He expressed concern about the absence of football clubs in the district, especially after the demise of Kessben FC.

The situation, Nana Wereko-Ampim said, was affecting the youth with potentials in football to nurture them and also starving soccer fans of entertainment, thus, compelling them to travel to Kumasi and Obuasi to watch football during league matches.

Among the dignitaries who graced the occasion were Dr. James Adomako, Dean of Students of the university of Ghana, Legon,   Mr. Karikari Amankwa, academic registrar of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Mrs. Joyce Opoku, a lawyer of SSNIT in Accra, and Mr. Paul Agyeman, the headteacher of DA School at Jachie.

A special match played between Jachie United and KNUST United saw the former winning by 3-0
