Prez Kufuor backs Sulley Muntari

Ex-Ghana President, John Agyekum Kufuor, has described Black Stars ‘bad boy,’Sulley Muntari, as one of the most patriotic players in the national team and should not be overly flayed  for demanding his due.

He contends that the current crop of players are not money-grabbers, rubbishing widespread claims they have lost their sense of patriotism.

The midfielder was a key actor in the row over bonuses which wrecked the country’s 2014 World Cup campaign in Brazil. Sulley has since lost his place in the team.

Muntari, who plays for Saudi side, Al Ittihad, is currently serving an indefinite suspension following an unprovoked physical attack on a former Black Stars management member, Moses Armah.

But President Kufuor insists the former AC Milan star, just like his compariots, are patriotic despite their demand for fat bonuses.

“You get a Muntari perhaps losing his temper occasionally. I don’t think he is any less Ghanaian or less patriotic,” he told Starr FM

“It’s a profession in which people are making millions all over the world and must be given what is due them”, he added.
