Raymond Normeshi excels in Japanese Ambassador's Judo Champs

Hundreds of judokas (judo practitioners) across the country participated in this year’s Japan Week Judo Championship held at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The championship, which was  thrilling and full of strength and technique, saw  Raymond Normeshi exhibiting exemplary technique to win the  men's 100 kilogrammes (kg), with  David Gamble  and Bright Mensah wining the second and third positions respectively.

In the other categories, youngster Edward Mawuley won the male U-10 event with Charles Wiafe, Majeed Bataku and Isaaka Abdul followed in that order.

The female category was won by Evelyn Dzato with Ramata Sulley and Charity Okine coming in second and third, respectively.

Blessing Bajaku dominated the U-13 category to win the ultimate, while Vanessa Adams and Elikem Agomadzi took the second and third positions respectively.

The female category was won by Beatrice Kulevorme while Anthonia Grace and Eugenia Asabea settled for the second and third place.

The male U-17 title was clinched by Emmanuel Kemavor with Eugene Mensah coming second, while Agudoo Zeo came third. The men 60kg honour went to Jones Mintah, who clinched first place ahead of Frank Tekpeh and Joshua Quarshie, who completed the top three.

The men 66kg category saw Idriss Sandor pip Dominic Agudoo and Raymond Quarshie to the gold medal while Maxwell Galley won the 81kg event ahead of Eleazer Dodoo and Mark Anthony.

The Japanese Ambassador, Kaoru Yoshimura, congratulated all the participants for their efforts, adding that the sport was gradually becoming a favourite among Ghanaian youth.

“Young people are taking interest in the sport and the Japan Embassy is committed to ensuring the development of the sport in the country,” he stated.
