Ghanaian winger Antoine Semenyo has made history by becoming the first Ghanaian ever selected for the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) Premier League Team of the Year, following an outstanding 2025/26 campaign.
Semenyo was one of four Manchester City players named in the prestigious XI, alongside Nico O’Reilly, Rayan Cherki and Erling Haaland.
The four players made significant individual contributions during a season in which the Club won both the Carabao Cup and FA Cup.
The team is voted for by fellow professional footballers, making the recognition a significant endorsement from his peers.
Semenyo enjoyed an impressive season after joining City from Bournemouth in January. Having already excelled during the first half of the campaign with Bournemouth, the Ghana international continued his strong form at the Etihad, establishing himself as an influential attacking player capable of operating on either wing.
He made a decisive contribution in major matches, most notably in the 2026 FA Cup final, where his spectacular back-flick helped City secure a 1-0 victory over Chelsea and lift the trophy.
The 26-year-old finished the season with 21 goals and six assists in 48 appearances, underlining his importance to City's domestic cup success.
Manchester City also celebrated O’Reilly's breakthrough campaign, Cherki's impressive debut season and Haaland's prolific goalscoring form. Haaland scored 38 goals in all competitions, including 27 Premier League goals, to claim his third Golden Boot.
City Director of Football Hugo Viana praised the quartet's inclusion, describing selection by fellow professionals as “the ultimate tribute” and saying the club was proud to have four players recognised after winning both domestic cup competitions.
