Thrills at 4 Garrison tennis show
Four tennis players in Kumasi made history on Africa Union’s Day when they won the maiden Patrons’ Day Tennis Double Championship at the 4 Garrison Officers’ Mess Tennis Club.
Ever present, Maxwell Owusu and Jonathan Quartey combined beautifully to overpower a combined team of Brig. Gen. Adjei and ACP Adusah Poku 6-1 to grab the ultimate prize.
The story was no different in the ladies category when Mariam Mamud and Peggy Oppong Bawuah defeated the duo of Brenda Sutinga and Paulina Asemiteng 6-3 in the finals.
On their way to the final the men’s winners beat Kofi Affum Baffoe and Augustine Boateng 6-2 in the semi-finals and had earlier run over Samuel Ampadu-Kyei and Emile King 6-1 at the quarter final stage and accounted for Eric Agyare and Kwabena Asiamah 6-1 at the preliminary stage.
The champions also defeated Maame Afua Danso and Alice Osei Tutu by 6-3.
