Youth urged to participate in Millennium Marathon

The Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports, Vincent Oppong Asamoah, has called on the youth to take the opportunity to participate in the upcoming Millennium Marathon slated for September 5 in Accra.

According to him the race would put Ghana on the international pedestal and afford her the privilege of hosting more major international competitions.

Registration for the competition begins on August 29 and ends on September 4 at the Aviation Social Centre.

Meanwhile, the organisers have announced a brand new Peugeot saloon car each as the prize for the male and female winners of the 21km race.

The marathon starts from the Independence Square at 7.15am through the Labadi Beach, El-Wak Stadium, National Theatre, Kwame Nkrumah Avenue to the High Street and back to the Independence Square.

A 5km mini-marathon will be staged alongside the main event. Dubbed the ‘Ambassadorial and Family Run’ it will involve both jogging and walking.

The men’s winner will also receive GH¢5,000 cash, while the women’s winner takes GH¢2,500, Adidas products and mobile phones.
The organisers have pledged adequate security and ambulance services for the event.
