Embrace warehouse robotics for safety, efficiency — CILT advocates
The President of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT), Mark Amoamah, President of CILT has advocated for the use of warehouse robotics at various warehouses across the country to ensure the safety of workers and enhance efficiency.
Speaking to journalists on the margins of the 2025 Warehouse Operations Management and Safety Workshop in Accra, he recounted a tragic case involving a 32-year-old warehouse worker whose health was severely impacted by unsafe working conditions.
The incident, which he said raised alarms about the urgent need for effective safety measures in warehouse environments could have been avoided if automated machines and systems were in place to complement human efforts.
“Some organisations have started using warehouse robotics in Ghana. That is the way to go. We will offer the necessary education on the technology and encourage other businesses to embrace it,” he said.
Workshop
Organised by the institute, the workshop forms part of efforts to assist safety officers and managers in understanding and addressing safety issues.
Inventory managers and other personnel involved in warehouse operations also took part in the workshop.
Experts in warehouse management and safety took turns to discuss practical strategies for implementing and ensuring warehouse safety, with emphasis on identifying key factors that contribute to workplace safety and operational efficiency.
Best practices
Mr Amoamah stressed the importance of ensuring international best practices in warehouse operations.
In line with that, he explained that as part of the workshop, the participants would embark on field visits to observe some warehouses that had adopted warehouse robotics to learn from international best practices in warehouse operations.
The institute, he said, would continue to promote professional development through the development of programmes to empower industry players to operate in accordance with international best practices.
“The commitment to safety and management excellence is poised to transform the industry, making warehouses safer for everyone involved,” he added.
