TCDA set to announce 2025 cashew price after stakeholder consensus

The Tree Crops Development Authority has engaged key stakeholders in the cashew industry in Techiman in the Bono East Region as part of preparations towards the announcement of the Minimum Producer Price for the 2025 cashew season.

The high-level meeting, led by the Chief Executive Officer of the TCDA, Dr Andy Osei Okrah, brought together farmers, traders, aggregators, exporters, processors and nursery operators across the Raw Cashew Nut value chain. The engagement was aimed at reviewing and clarifying the parameters used in determining the producer price for the upcoming season.

Participants were taken through the indicators that inform the pricing model, including global market trends, production forecasts, quality standards and cost components. Officials of the Authority explained that the pricing process is guided by the Tree Crops Development Authority Act, 2019, Act 1010, and the Tree Crops Development Authority Regulations, L.I. 2471 of 2023, with specific reference to Regulation 47(1).

During the session, stakeholders were guided through the application of the approved pricing formula using a prevailing Free On Board price of 1,400 dollars per metric tonne based on 48 KOR and 180 nut count with a maximum moisture content of 10 per cent, a six-month average exchange rate of GH¢11.0241, and all applicable statutory and operational cost components.

After applying the variables, the indicative price derived from the formula stood at 1,012.08 dollars per metric tonne, equivalent to GH¢11,157.34, based on 46 KOR and 190 nut count with a maximum moisture content of 10 per cent. This translated into a price of GH¢11.157 per kilogram.

Following extensive deliberations, all value chain actors unanimously agreed to adopt a simplified and farmer-friendly round figure of GH¢12.00 per kilogram as the Minimum Producer Price for the 2025 to 2026 Raw Cashew Nut season. The consensus was reached to promote fairness, motivate farmers and sustain a competitive domestic cashew market.

Stakeholders also agreed that the producer price would be reviewed regularly in line with changes in market conditions and the underlying parameters that influence the pricing model.

In his closing remarks, Dr Okrah said the collaborative process demonstrated the Authority’s commitment to transparency, fairness and stability in the cashew sector, while helping to streamline the value chain and ensure a more predictable and profitable season for all actors.

The engagement ended with full consensus and positive feedback from participants, with the TCDA expected to officially announce the 2025 cashew season price on Monday, December 15, 2025.
