Launched in July last year at the Alisa Hotel in Accra, the project seeks for men and women as well as young and old who have sacrificed their energy, time and other resources to improve their communities and helped to brighten the lives of people around them.

Members of the public were encouraged to nominate their heroes. Teams were then dispatched into the communities  to verify their stories.

MTN Ghana Foundation sources have explained that the public were asked to nominate their heroes who had dedicated themselves to making life better for people in their in five clearly spelt-out categories.

The categories were segmented into Community Crusader, Social Protection, Health, Environment and  Education.

Ms Cynthia Lumor, Corporate Services Executive at MTN Ghana has said that the Heroes of Change is an  important project which MTN believed would make a great impact on this country.

“The project flows out of the desire for the improvement of the well-being of MTN customers and the promotion of sustainable initiatives in the communities in which we operate,” Ms Lumor says.

Though the public nominated the 20 personalities whose good work in their communities would be seen over the next 13 weeks, they don’t decide who wins in the various categories or who the eventual overall winner would be.

The panel of judges who have accepted the challenge of selecting the winners are Sidney Casely Hayford, a Chartered Accountant as well as business and financial analyst and Ibrahim Awal, founder and CEO of Marble Communications Group,  publishers of the Finder newspaper.

The others are  Albert Ocran,  an international motivational speaker, author and co-founder of Combert Impressions and Dr  Doris Yaa Dartey, a communicatiuons professional and Chairperson of the board of directors of the Graphic Communications Group Limited.

An amount of Ghc 10,000 will go to  support each category winner  and the ultimate winner will receive project support of up to Ghc 50,000.

“The Heroes of Change is a commendable initiative and I’m proud to be part of it. It will help people to do better and rise to higher heights in helping their communities,” Albert Ocran said about the project.

Five women and 15 men make up the 20 persons the public will see in the series.
