National Theatre to hold vigil night in honour of Mawuli Semevo

The National Theatre of Ghana is hosting a special tribute event dubbed, “Remembering Mawuli Semevo” to honour the life and legacy of the renowned actor who passed on Thursday, February 20.

The event will take place on Thursday, March 27 at 6:30 pm at the National Theatre's main auditorium.

Mawuli Semevo, who retired as the director of Drama Company, one of the three resident performing groups of the National Theatre of Ghana sadly passed away last month at Ridge Hospital due to injuries he suffered in a fire accident.(Read Veteran actor Mawuli Semevo dies from fire accident complications)

Known for his exceptional acting skills, both on stage and in films, Semevo featured in several productions, including Harvest at 17, A Stab in the Dark, Escape of Love, Like Cotton Twines, and The Good Old Days: The Love of AA.

The tribute night will bring together top personalities in Ghana's arts and culture industry to honour Mawuli Semevo's life, works and most importantly, his contributions and lasting impact on the country's theatre and performance scene as a teacher, actor and theatre director.

The event will also include performances, tributes, and storytelling sessions. 

 Mawuli Semevo is a highly acclaimed actor, celebrated for his exceptional talent and versatility on both stage and screen. 

His impressive filmography includes standout performances in movies such as "Harvest at 17", "A Stab in the Dark", "Escape of Love", "Like Cotton Twines", and "The Good Old Days: The Love of AA".

He played the role of Baba Fakunle in the adaption of Ola Rotimi’s “The gods are not to blame” by Image Bureau and April Productions staged at the National Theatre last year.
