Nigeria’s Tems makes history as first African female artist with 7 entries on Billboard Hot 100
Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has become the first African female artist to have seven entries on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart.
The milestone came after her song “What You Need” debuted at number 93 on this week’s Billboard Hot 100, bringing her total entries to seven.
With this achievement, Tems now ties her compatriot Burna Boy and South African group Seether as the African artists with the most Billboard Hot 100 entries, with seven each.
In 2022, Tems made history as the first African artist to debut at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart with her collaborative hit with Future and Drake, “Wait For U.”
Tems is expected to break the tie with Burna Boy and Seether soon, as J. Cole’s “Bunce Road Blues” featuring her and Future is set to debut on the Billboard Hot 100 chart next week.
