VIDEO: Watch Daddy Lumba's funeral live as legendary musician is laid to rest after legal battle ends

The funeral of legendary Ghanaian musician Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, is proceeding today as scheduled, following the collapse of a court injunction that briefly threatened to halt the burial.

The funeral is going ahead after some maternal family members who secured the injunction failed to pay a GH¢2 million undertaking ordered by the Accra High Court. The failure to meet the condition effectively nullified the injunction, clearing the way for the funeral slated for Saturday, December 13, 2025, to take place.

Yesterday, the Accra High Court, presided over by Justice Emmanuel Kofi Diaba, had barred the family head, Kofi Owusu, from organising the final funeral rites and restrained Transitions Funeral Home from releasing the body. The court held that affidavits before it suggested the immediate family had been sidelined and stressed the need for broader family consultation in line with customary practice.

Shortly after delivering that ruling, the court reconvened and issued a further order, directing that because of costs already incurred, the applicants must pay GH¢2 million by 2 p.m. or risk the injunction being vacated. Justice Diaba stated that if the money was not deposited by the deadline, “the order of interlocutory injunction would be vacated”.

By close of day, lawyers for the family head confirmed that the applicants were unable to pay the GH¢2 million undertaking. As a result, Transitions Funeral Home was directed to release the body, paving the way for the funeral to proceed as originally planned.

With the legal hurdle removed, final preparations resumed at the Heroes’ Park at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, where canopies were mounted, carpets laid and the venue decorated with photographs and billboards reflecting Daddy Lumba’s stature in Ghana’s music industry.

Daddy Lumba, who passed away on July 26, 2025, at the age of 60, was one of Ghana’s most influential highlife musicians, producing over 30 albums and timeless hits including Aben Wo Ha, Sika Asem and Theresa.

His funeral today marks the final farewell to an artiste whose music shaped generations and left an enduring legacy in Ghanaian culture.
