Role of Parliament in a democracy
In most countries of the world, one institution that is considered very critical to the governance system is Parliament.
This is because it is the place where laws are made to govern the country.
So important is the role played by Parliament that in most countries, it is considered as one of the three most important institutions of state.

In our country for instance, the powerful and important role played by Parliament is clearly seen in Article 93(2) of the Constitution, which makes it clear that “no person or body other than Parliament has the power to pass any measure with the force of law except by or under the authority conferred by an Act of Parliament”.
It is important to know that every country has a unique way of referring to its Parliament.
While in Ghana we call our law-making body Parliament, in Japan it is known as the Diet, while in Israel it is referred to as the Knesset, Congress in Colombia and USA
