Tragic East Legon accident: Call for parental reflection

The recent accident at East Legon, where two innocent children tragically lost their lives, serves as a painful reminder of the responsibility we, as parents, bear in raising our children.

While the loss of these young lives is heartbreaking, it’s also a moment to reflect on how we are bringing up our children in today’s world.

Our foreparents instilled in us discipline, respect and a deep sense of responsibility – values that shaped us into the individuals we are today.

But as we look around, the bitter truth must be told: what kind of generation are we building now? What legacy do we, as parents, want to leave behind for the future?

Parenting in the modern world is not easy. We are constantly challenged by societal changes, peer pressure and a desire to provide the best for our children. But in our quest to give them everything, are we losing sight of the importance of saying "Yes" or "No" when the need arises?

Discipline, after all, is not about punishment, but about setting boundaries and teaching responsibility. Our ability to guide our children with love, and with firmness when necessary, defines the adults they will become.

We may agree to disagree on certain parenting styles, but one truth remains: discipline is essential in building responsible, respectful and accountable young people.

It is time to rise as parents and reflect on the kind of legacy we want to leave behind.

As the Bible reminds us in Proverbs 22:6: “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.”

Let us take this verse to heart and instil values in our children that will stand the test of time.
