The late Prof John Evans Atta Mills

Prof. - A multifaceted transformational statesman

In fact, Tuesday, July 24, 2012 will be imprinted in our memory forever because the sudden demise of former President John Evans Atta Mills was a monumental shock which hit the citizenry of Ghana in particular and the world at large.

Prof.’s death still remains a knotted puzzle.  He breathed a lot of sanity into our body politic by buoying up our hopes. He was very ordinary and his style of servant-leadership was open and personal.

Our good Professor had very extraordinary relation with the media and that is an effective hallmark of good leadership.  Prof. was the meekest, most honest and humblest President Ghana has ever had.

Besides, he was blessed with supernatural amplitude of understanding; and he took critical decisions by delving into the nitty-gritty of issues.  He was downright frank and with no pretence and this made him a cynosure in Ghana and beyond.

Prez Mills was an epitome of a figure that brought decency to us.  Discipline of mind and conduct was so close to his heart.

Let us infect ourselves with Prof.’s legacies because he was a deep-thinking individual who projected a very positive image of Ghana and Africa.

He observed the tenets of democracy because he deciphered the relevance of separation of powers and gave due respect to all the institutions of governance.

The learned Professor had lived a much fulfilled life though he received media bashing that he did not have sufficient saliva in his mouth for coining his words.

He swallowed their vituperative language hook, line and sinker though they kept on bouncing their arsenals into his heart.

He never wavered at the incessant heckling, rancour and wrangling. Prof. overcame the negative things some people said about him because he had a dose of self-confidence and self-worth.

Despite the acrimony which has bedeviled our politics, he was all along preaching peace.  But after his demise, even those who were perceived to be his greatest detractors are now saying touching things about him.

The era of vilification should, as it were, be gone forever.  Ironically, some disgruntled and embittered gurus of his own party kept on perturbing him till he breathed his last.  The late President was treated out of sheer hatred.

Prof. was an honest statesman who preached peace.  God will use his life to unite us.  We, therefore, need to be thankful for the life of our late Prof.

Humility, to a large extent, was one of his virtues. Even at a point where we all knew he was unfit, he was able to sacrifice to work.  If all and sundry can take a clue from his Christian life, our nation will be a better place to live.

Prof. did not shy away from the declaration of God’s word.  As a priceless inspirational statesman, he encouraged us to have absolute faith in God’s Word.

As a man of God, Prof. was not ashamed to tell the whole world of his unflinching faith in God.

He left indelible memories in our hearts because he had a glint of keen desire to serve his people.

We should, therefore, carry his message far and wide because God inoculated him with instincts to transform our lives.
