Nigeria declares Friday public holiday to aid travelling voters

Nigeria’s Federal Government on Wednesday declared Friday, February 22, a public holiday to enable voters needing to travel for Saturday’s rescheduled polls to do so.
A statement by the country’s Interior Ministry said the holiday will not affect providers of essential services and banks.
Africa’s most populous nation goes to the polls to elect a president and parliamentarians. It was originally scheduled for Saturday, February 16, but rescheduled at the last hour owing to logistics arrangements.
“The work-free day is to enable citizens return to their poling units for the reschedule Presidential & National Assembly elections”, said the statement.
