Viral Video: Woman arrested for wearing Ghana Police uniform without authorisation
The Inspector-General of Police’s Special Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team (CVET) has arrested a Nigerian national, identified as Esther Obasi, after viral videos emerged showing her dressed in Ghana Police camouflage and the standard black police uniform.
According to the Ghana Police Service, the suspect is currently in custody assisting investigations and is expected to be put before court soon for prosecution.
The videos triggered widespread public outrage and raised serious concerns about the unauthorised use and abuse of police uniforms, as well as impersonation of law enforcement officers.
Arrest traced to Prestea in Western Region
Investigations by the Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team reportedly traced the suspect to the Prestea area in the Western Region, where she was arrested.
The police further confirmed that internal investigations have also identified the officer whose uniform was used.
“Investigation by the team tracked the suspect to Prestea area in the Western Region of Ghana, leading to her arrest.
“The police officer whose uniform was used was also identified and will be dealt with internally.
Police warn against uniform abuse
The Ghana Police Service has cautioned the public against the unauthorised use of police uniforms, stressing that offenders will be dealt with strictly in accordance with the law.
