Beverly Afaglo: John Dumelo credits late actress for his breakthrough role
Ghanaian actor and politician John Dumelo has paid a touching tribute to late actress Beverly Afaglo, revealing the significant role she played in shaping his acting career.
In an emotional social media post following news of Beverly’s passing, John Dumelo recounted how their friendship and professional relationship began nearly two decades ago on the set of the television series About to Wed in Dzorwulu.
According to him, that production became the meeting point for several actors who later became household names, including Prince David Osei and Yvonne Okyere.
“About 20 years ago I walked into the set of ‘About to Wed’ in Dzorwulu. That’s when I met Beverly Afaglo, Prince David Osei and Yvonne Okyere,” he wrote.
John Dumelo noted that Beverly’s talent and support brought out the best in him during their time on set, adding that she later became instrumental in helping him secure one of the defining roles of his career.
“Fast forward a year after, Bev calls and says ‘John, call Salam (movie producer), they need someone to play the role of a King’. That’s how I got to star in the movie King is Mine and the rest they say is history,” he stated.
The actor expressed gratitude to Beverly Afaglo for believing in him and contributing immensely to his journey in the movie industry.

In one of the most emotional parts of the tribute, Dumelo suggested that Beverly’s impact on his life and career was so profound that she would feature prominently if he ever writes a memoir.
“I will always dey 4 u…. one day when I decide to write a book, your name will fill pages,” he wrote.
John Dumelo joins a growing list of actors, musicians and public figures mourning Beverly Afaglo, whose death has sent shockwaves through Ghana’s entertainment industry.
The actress, widely admired for her performances in movies and television productions, passed away just days before her birthday, leaving behind a legacy cherished by colleagues, fans and loved ones alike.
