Independence Day celebration - 16 basic schools participate in Kumasi

Sixteen basic schools drawn from public and private institutions in the Kumasi Metropolis took part in the regional celebration of Ghana’s 61st Independence Day in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.

In addition, 14 cadet corps from some senior high schools performed brilliantly when they by exhibited their skills at the regional celebrations.

At the end of the parade, some deserving schools were awarded for their smart turnout, drill and performance during the parade.

The Osei Tutu Preparatory School at Gyinyase emerged the Best Private School in the march past, while the Kumasi Anglican Senior High School also came tops in the cadet category.

The Yaa Asantewaa Girls’ Senior High School was adjudged the best in the senior high school non-cadet corps category.

For their prizes, each award winning institution took home a memento and other souvenirs.

In a related development, the T I Ahmaddiya Senior High School came first in the maiden Independence Day Breast Cancer Quiz competition organised for senior high schools in the metropolis.

The school was presented with a desktop computer, while the participants took home science textbooks and exercise books.

The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology Senior High School placed second and was awarded a public address system.

The Kumasi Girls’ Senior High School took the third position and went home with a flat screen television.
