Vice President Opoku-Agyemang calls for unity, compassion in Easter message

Vice President H E Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has called on Ghanaians to embrace compassion, unity, and fairness in a heartfelt Easter message shared on her official social media platforms on Friday, April 18, 2025.

As Christians in Ghana and around the world commemorate the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang urged citizens to reflect on the values of empathy, inclusivity and national cohesion.

“As Christians across Ghana and the world mark the celebration of Easter, I extend my warmest wishes to everybody," she said.

“May this season reawaken in us the conviction to build a kinder, fairer nation—one that listens, uplifts, and holds space for every voice,” she said. “I wish all Ghanaians a meaningful and peaceful Easter.”

This message marks the Vice President’s second public communication since her recent medical treatment at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC), followed by a period of recovery in the United Kingdom.

Last week, Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, assured the public that the Vice President was in good health and had been advised by doctors to take a short period of rest abroad. He confirmed that she is recovering steadily and is expected to resume her official duties soon.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, a respected academic and the first woman to serve as Vice-Chancellor of a public university in Ghana, had been on medical leave for two weeks following a sudden illness.

Her return to the public space with a message of unity and hope has been warmly received by social media users, who view it as a reassuring sign of her recovery and continued commitment to national development and collective well-being.
